Barrow AFC Community Initiatives

News of some fantastic initiatives from BAFC Community Sports!

We are delighted to announce some fantastic initiatives from Barrow AFC Community Sports, including two fantastic competitions in partnership with Kick Off 4 Mental Health!

Barrow AFC Boot Bank:

The first initiative is the Barrow AFC boot bank. This is a project whereby you are invited to drop off unwanted/used football boots which can then be re-used by members of the local community.

Flash Electrical Services have kindly donated three storage cupboards for the boots which are located in reception at the Furness Building Society Stadium.

Donations can be made at the club during opening hours (9am-4pm Monday to Friday and from 12pm on home match days). If you would like to donate a pair of boots outside of these hours, please contact Craig on c.rutherford@barrowafc.com or 01229 6660111.

Kick Off 4 Mental Health:

Kick Off 4 was established in October 2016 – aiming to raise money and awareness for UK based Charities. The concept of using football to engage people, in aid of Cancer Research UK, soon escalated from a one off game to Kick Off 4 Cancer. This saw a 16 Team Knockout Football Tournament, Offside Stage and a Fun Field. Utilising the vast array of companies in the area to have something to appeal to everyone. The added bonus of support from Celebrities and Ex Professional Footballers, including Manchester United’s David May and Liverpool’s Roy Evans. Raising over £5,000 in the one day only prompted the Kick Off 4 team to move forward and look at a cause closer to home for 2018 – Dementia.

In May 2018, Kick Off 4 Dementia followed the same three concepts however with more Celebrity support added a Kidz Zone to the mix. With an added event of a 6km Memory Walk, the team exceeded the previous year and raised over £6,000 for The Alzheimer’s Society.

Continuing to ensure that they raised awareness and worked closely with the Furness Community – they committed to raising money and awareness in 2019 for Mental Health stalwarts: Mind. However this time – going local with Mind in Furness. With the aim of providing and supporting local people and their Mental Health.

We have teamed up with them to offer youngsters two exciting competitions to be involved in our game against Salford City in December which is LIVE on BT Sport!
