Adam made his debut for Halifax Town in 2002 and went on to make just under 200 League and Cup appearances for them, scoring nine times before joining Crawley Town in the summer of 2008. He was a regular with the Sussex club clocking up 76 appearances, netting seven goals before he was loaned out to Forest Green Rovers in October 2010. He made seven appearances for Rovers, scoring once. He joined Darlington on a permanent basis in January 2011 and made 14 appearances for them over the remainder of the season. He joined Barrow on a three month loan in August 2011.
