Born in Burnley, Richie spent time with Manchester United's academy before joining Preston North End as a trainee in 2005. In the summer of 2006 he was released and joined Bury for whom he played 129 times in all competitions over the following four years scoring eight goals. In the summer of 2010 he was released and joined Oxford United for whom he played eight times before his deal expired in January 2011.
Richie Baker joined Barrow on non-contract terms on Valentine's day 2011 after his contract at Oxford United had expired. Baker was initially taken on as a replacement for James Owen who was having time off for health reason but has now signed to continue his stay at Holker Street until the end of the season.
