Walker Gets England Call-Up

Barrow striker, Jason Walker, has been called up to the England C squad for the friendly in Malta on February 17th.

Paul Brown has also been selected in the stand-by squad.

Walker is the first Barrow player since the early 1990s to earn a full call-up; Glenn Skivington & Kenny Lowe having both represented their country at this level.

The full experimental squad to play Malta U-21s is:
Dale Roberts (Rushden & Diamonds)
Steven Arnold (Grays Athletic)
Michael Byron (Droylsden)
Sean Newton (Droylsden)
Martin Riley (Kidderminster Harriers)
Scott Doe (Weymouth)
Ben Purkiss (York City)
Lewis McMahon (Gainsborough Trinity)
Tom Shaw (Tamworth)
Nicky Wroe (Torquay United)
Lee Tomlin (Rushden & Diamonds)
Lewis Haldane (Oxford United)
Ishmael Welsh (Grays Athletic)
Paul Clayton (Alfreton Town)
Liam Hearn (Alfreton Town)
Jason Walker (Barrow)

Commenting on his selection, England C Manager, Paul Fairclough, said: "The fixture offers a great opportunity to blood a new generation of young players."

"With the final of the International Challenge Trophy against Belgium scheduled for May, the match against Malta will give previously uncapped players an opportunity to stake a claim for a place in the final," he continued."

"The squad that gained the vital point in Italy back in November that put us through to the final have continued to impress at club level and they are very much in the forefront for selection in May."

"However, as we did against Bosnia-Herzegovina last September, it is key to the development of this team that we continue to look for emerging talent."

"I am excited about the prospect of meeting up with this entirely new squad and am very confident that they will all seize the moment. The game against Malta cannot fail to have a real edge to it as these Young Lions look to mark my card."
