Jason played soccer locally until he was 16 then he joined Scottish club Dundee. He stayed at Dens Park for four seasons without making a real breakthrough.


He left the Tayside club in the summer of 2004 and joined Greenock Morton. He was a regular squad member and also played regularly in the Scottish Second and Third Division for them before being released and joining Morecambe in January 2007, scoring on his first team debut as a substitute in the F.A. Trophy against Mangotsfield.


He was released by the Shrimps in March 2007 and joined Barrow making his debut as a substitute in the 3-0 win at Leigh. A member of the team that won the Blue Square North Play Off Final at the end of the 2007-08 season. Jason also played for the England 'C' team against Malta Under 21's in February 2009. At the end of the 2008-09 season, Jason collected the National Supporters Club and Evening Mail "Player of the Year" awards and became a Barrow legend by scoring the extra-time winner in last seasons FA Trophy final at Wembley.
