Born in Liverpool, Gregg began his career as a trainee with Tranmere Rovers before being released in the summer of 1977. He had a briefly spell with Knowsley United before joining Vauxhall Motors. He joined Northwich Victoria in 2001 and in two years at the club netted 39 goals in 90 appearances. In the summer of 2003 he joined Doncaster Rovers and in his two years with the Yorkshire club he netted 28 goals in 86 appearances.


He moved again in the summer of 2005 to join Chester City where he again spent two seasons and scored 13 times in 57 games before moving in the summer of 2007 to Darlington. In his two seasons with the Quakers he netted eleven times in 71 appearances before being released in the summer and rejoining Chester City. He has scored three times in 17 appearances for City and joined Barrow on loan at the end of November. He made his debut in the F.A. Cup tie at Oxford. He joined Barrow permanently in January 2010.

Gregg scored a crutial goal in the FA Trophy semi-final against Salisbury helping them through to there Wembley victory. He was a member of the 2009-10 FA Trophy final winning squad.
