Lancaster City Res 3 v Barrow Res 1

A low key reserve game on Friday night was ruined by both teams having several late cry offs which begs the question, whether a wet friday night in October is a good choice for reserve teams to be playing at our level.

Fairclough, Morris,Browne, Thompson,Lancaster,Clarke, Waterworth J,Doughty,Danboyi,Dorran,Nicholson, Sub : used Waterwotrh M

An untidy opening with neither team being able to take control. Barrow gradually began have the lion's share of possession in the game. Good interplay between Doughty and Nicholson saw Barrow's first chance just go wide of the post. Ironically lancaster's one and only attack of the half resorted in goal that was though in isolation a well worked goal that gave Fairclough no chance. A free kick central to the goals was hit hard and true by Steve Thompson but was straight at the keeper who hung on well. Just before half time a powerful drive by Richie Doughty was cleared off the line by the Lancaster fullback who knew nothing of the shot but saw the rebound off his chest land in his own goalkeeper's hands much both of their surprise.

Half time 1-0 to Lancaster, and the team left the field slightly bemused to be behind.

The second half began and saw a bizarre second goal for lancaster in a repeat of the Barrow shot on goal blocked on the line previously, the exact same senario happened at the Barrow end only for Browne to stop the ball on the line and see his clearance rebound of the goalkeeper hit himself again and nestle in the bottom of the net. The 25 supporters in the ground found the whole thing extremely amusing!!

Barrow were never really in the game again and with Lancaster also unable to take control the game was meandering to a painful end and becoming untidy with one or two rash challenges which showed both sides inability to take charge. Lancaster's 3rd goal was another own goal which probably summed up the night and was result of a hopeful cross hitting the hapless Browne again and deflecting into the net.

There was just time for Barrow's motm Dave Dorran to grab a consolation but it was too little too late.

The feeling of the management was that here for the 3rd match running a settled team that had originally been selected would have in all probability beaten mediocre opposition.
