Barrow res V AFC Fylde Res Tues 9th Feb

Last night the Reserves entertained a young energetic Afc Fylde in a game that saw two evenly matched sides fight out a close encounter with Barrow just edging it in the last minute with a goal that would have graced any match. A quickfire move from defence to attack saw debutant Martin Grundy meet the ball beautifully on the half volley to send it sweetly across the keeper into the net at a rapid rate of knots.

The pitch in good condition on a wind free night was the setting for the game. Afc Fylde are mid table had already beaten us in a bizarre match just before Christmas 6-3. Last night though a stronger, more organised team pushed on at every opportunity to create lots of chances. Steve Thompson playing in the unacustomed role of keeper was called upon little as Matthew Buczynski a signing from Lancaster Res made an impressive debut at 5 with Phil Morris, Joe Pearson & the dependable Adam Browne working hard to keep out the lively Fylde attack. An even first half finished 0-0.

The game continued in the same vein after the break, where Scott Redhead was working hard to get the forward line going. Barrow eventually took the lead when an Olly Clarke shot had enough power to beat the keeper and bounce into an empty net. Fylde though kept up the pressure with end to end play and equalized with a well hit free kick that flew into the net past a static Thompson. lots of pressure now came from the opposition as they sensed a possible victory, but the lads weathered the storm and itn the dying minutes Grundy's great stike sealed the Reserves first win since October.

As the final whistle was about to be blown a clear foul on Joe Wright in the box went unpunished but it was to matter not as the Referee from Blackpool brought the game to an end.
