Bluebirds Appoint New Head Of Performance Centre!

Exciting news from our Performance Centre!

We are delighted to announce Liam Reid as the new Head of our Performance Centre.

Liam began coaching at Holker Old Boys at age of 16 and worked for Bluebirds legend Neil Doherty at InsideOut Soccer from 2007, and as Community Coach at Barrow AFC from 2009

His other experience includes working for the Players Football Association as a live match analyst, covering Championship and below for 4 years.

A qualified Primary Teacher, he has been working at St James CE Junior School since 2014.

Liam has been with the Performance Centre since its very first season under the guidance of Neil Doherty, and has coached across the age groups ever since.

He has been assistant Head of the Centre since 2014, a role which involves liaising with professional academies and other development centres; speaking on a regular basis with all staff including coaches and sports therapy staff, supporting in the general day-to-day running of the Centre and helping to implement ideas and coaching programmes.

He is currently in the process of completing UEFA B this season.

Upon accepting the role, Liam said “I’m very humbled and privileged to find myself in this position. I’ve been involved since the Centre’s creation when we started with 16 players so to now work alongside all the staff to look after approximately 200 players is an honour. Meetings with directors have been very positive and we are all excited to share our curriculum and vision for the direction we wish to take with the full support of the hierarchy. Meetings will be organised shortly with parents and players to engage views and for myself, Craig Rutherford and Club Director Mark Hetherington to share the vision.”

Chairman Paul Hornby is delighted that Liam has made the step up “Liam stepping up to the role of head of the performance centre was a natural progression for him. You couldn’t find someone more knowledgeable about the centre and more enthusiastic about its future. We are delighted he has accepted this new challenge as we head into an exciting new era as a club.”

Craig Rutherford will be our new Assistant Head of Youth.
