Dixon’s The One For Barrow!

Exciting contract news for the Bluebirds!

We are delighted to announce that goalkeeper Joel Dixon has signed a new contract with the club! The shot stopper, 25, has signed a one year deal with the option for a further year.

The Middlesbrough born keeper is the clubs longest serving player, having joined from Sunderland in the June 2015. He made his debut on the opening day of the 2015/16 season in a 2-1 home win over Dover Athletic and has been selected to be a part of the England C squad during his time with us.

Before joining the Bluebirds he spent his youth career at the Stadium of Light, graduating through their academy and signing a full time deal in 2013. He spent the early part of the 2013-14 season on loan at Workington in the Conference North before being recalled by Sunderland. He also spent a spell on loan with Hartlepool United in League Two during the early part of the 2014-15 season and then had a three month spell on loan in Vanarama North with Boston United.

Despite facing long spells on the sidelines due to various injuries, Joel has fought back each time and has become the first name on the team sheet since coming into the side in early November. He has kept an impressive 12 clean sheets in 25 games since his return, including a run of 5 consecutive clean sheets at the end of last year.

The new deal is a just reward for his fine form and he was delighted to sign on the dotted line for at least another year “I couldn’t be happier to be staying for another year. Obviously I’ve been here for quite a while now and it hasn’t always been easy, but I’m just enjoying being back on the pitch every week. Everyone at the club from the Chairman to the fans have been fantastic with me, and I can’t wait to see what next season brings. The Gaffer has made it clear where he wants us to go as a team and as a club and I’m glad to have signed a new deal to be a part of it all.”

Dixon faces one of his former sides in a weeks time when we host Hartlepool United in our final home game of the season. Save money by purchasing your tickets online HERE.
