Assistant manager Jamie Day’s thoughts on our 1-1 draw with Gateshead.
“We’re disappointed with the result, I thought the first half we played really well, created some good chances and didn’t really repeat that in the second half.
Our game management wasn’t good enough, we had enough chances to kill the game off but didn’t and like last week they caught us on a counter attack and we paid the price for that.
Grant had a little bit of a hamstring problem in the first half and we wanted to get as much game time out of him as possible, obviously we didn’t want to lose him for longer.
We felt we had to freshen it up as the second half was disappointing and we didn’t really do enough, and the intensity wasn’t as high as it was in the first half. We wanted to change it and try and get back on the front foot and try and get the second goal to kill it off.
After a good result at the weekend we wanted to get another win and get back to backs but we’ve not been beaten and that’s a positive and it was a positive first half but we know we have to do better to climb up the table.
I’m not too sure why our home form hasn’t been as good, if you look at Sutton and maybe 60% of tonight we have been on top and should have killed the game off. I think from the two games I’ve seen at home we just haven’t been ruthless enough in both boxes and we’ve paid the price for that.
Everyone is fit that has played since I’ve been here, obviously we’ll look after them the next couple of days and we have the weekend with no game so we can work them Thursday & Friday. We’ve got a massive game next Tuesday so we need to make sure everyone is 100% ready to go.”
