Barrow were forced to settle for a draw from their third friendly outing of pre-season against FC United of Manchester at Broadhurst Park on Saturday.

Having won comfortably at Holker Old Boys seven days earlier and been narrowly beaten at Blackpool in midweek, David Dunn’s men were given another good workout by FC United.

The Bluebirds boss took another opportunity to cast his eye over a number of trialists during the game, as Jack Hindle and Scott Quigley got the Barrow goals in an entertaining encounter.

It was Barrow who threatened first when a ball was flighted in to the path of Luke James on the right and he tantalised the defender before pulling a pass back for the arriving Connor Brown but his shot went wide.

However, it was the home side who struck first on 18 minutes when the ball was swung in to the box from the left and Aaron Morris beautifully cushioned a header back across the trialist keeper and found the back of the net for 1-0.

The Bluebirds tried to find a way back on level terms when Callum Gribbin did well on the left before laying the ball in to the path of James but the front man sent his shot too high from twenty yards.

There was another opportunity not long after when Gribbin flighted a free-kick towards goal but this time the effort took a deflection which sent it beyond the post.

FC United should have doubled their advantage late on in the first half when a free-kick was sent in deep from the right towards Michael Fowler in space but he sent a tame volley wide from close range.

Dunn’s men came out looking a little brighter after the break and could have grabbed a leveller when Angus got across his man at the front post but his looping header dropped on to the roof of the net.

A raft of changes injected new life in to Barrow just prior to the hour mark and Lewis Hardcastle almost got the equaliser when his low drive was well parried away by keeper Ollie Martin.

However, Barrow were back on level terms on 62 minutes when Jack Hindle turned swiftly inside the box and applied a clinical finish in to the bottom right-hand corner of the net to make it 1-1.

And it got even better just three minutes later when FC United were caught appealing for offside but the flag stayed down and Scott Quigley raced clear and easily beat the keeper to put Barrow in front.

The lead was short-lived though because the hosts reacted almost instantly to draw level when substitute Matt Van Wyk got the decisive touch to make it 2-2.
