Barrow Ready For Birmingham Friendly

The Bluebirds return to pre-season action this afternoon when they take on Birmingham City in a behind closed doors friendly at The Blues’ training ground (1pm kick-off).

It marks a step up in pace for Mark Cooper’s warm-up schedule, with the Championship side expected to field a strong line-up and provide a stern examination.

After an intensive week of training in Scotland, Cooper is looking forward to seeing his players back out on the pitch in a game situation and he expects them to be excited at the prospect too.

“It will be a good test for the lads, that’s for sure,” he told us.

“It’s going to be another boiling hot day and Birmingham are obviously a strong side with plenty of good players so it’s going to be a big challenge, but one we relish.

“We’ve had one or two injury niggles in the squad but we’re hoping to have some of those back involved this afternoon which is a real positive.

“Everyone who is fit to play will get 45 minutes, some will play more, and we’ll also take the opportunity to have a look at a couple of trialists too.

“It’s a good exercise for us all round in getting some minutes into the players’ legs so hopefully we can couple that with a decent performance too.”

The game is taking place at City’s Wast Hills Training Ground and is behind closed doors so no fans will be permitted. However, we’ll bring you a report here on the Official Website following the final whistle.

Hutton On Target In Draw At Birmingham

Remeao Hutton scored a last-minute equaliser against his former club as Barrow clinched a 1-1 draw in their pre-season friendly at Birmingham City on Tuesday afternoon.

Mark Cooper’s men made the trip to face strong Championship opposition on a baking day at their Wast Hills Training Ground and they gave a good account of themselves in the sunshine.

Barrow were forced to defend well for large periods against their hosts and worked hard to ensure the game was goalless at the halfway stage.

However, Birmingham did edge in front in the second half when Gary Gardner’s header found the back of the net but The Bluebirds were not to be outdone.

Hutton – signed in the summer from Birmingham – started and finished a flowing move down the right flank with a clinical finish to ensure the game finished level.

“It was a good afternoon’s work for the players against a very strong Birmingham side,” a pleased Cooper told us afterwards.

“I know it’s not about the results in pre-season but to get a draw against a Championship line-up like that is superb. Fair play to the players because they were magnificent – they worked their socks off.

“Before I came here there was obviously a good spirit here to finish the season like they did and I have seen evidence of that since I came in.

“There is a strong will to win within this group and that can take you a long way but we also played some decent football at times too, so I am really pleased with them.”
