Sam Hird has signed a new deal with the Bluebirds!
We are delighted to announce that Sam Hird has signed a new one year deal with the club, with a further one year option!
Hird, 31, joined the Bluebirds in January from Alfreton Town.
Born in Doncaster, he spent his spent the first steps in football at Aston Villa, before joining Leeds United at the age of nine. He spent eight years at Elland Road before joining his hometown club Doncaster Rovers after a brief loan spell there.
He appeared over 150 times for Donny in the football league, scoring three goals. Sam was part of their squad that beat his former club Leeds in the League One Play-off final that saw them promoted to the Championship. He was a regular for Donny in the Championship and signed a contract extension in the summer of 2011 before leaving the club at the end of his contract in May 2012.
Chesterfield was his next stop, joining them in June 2012 and he was immediately made captain. Hird went on to make nearly 250 appearances for the Spireites, striking up a partnership in central defence with Bluebirds boss Ian Evatt.
He won the 2015-16 Chesterfield Player of the Year but was released by the club in the summer of last year. He joined Alfreton in October last year before joining us at the Furness Building Society Stadium.
