David Dunn has admitted that he is pleased with the progress made by his squad during pre-season so far but insists there is plenty more to fine-tune before the big kick-off.
Barrow were beaten 2-1 by League One side Blackpool in their latest game of the warm-up campaign on Tuesday but gave a good account of themselves at Bloomfield Road.
Dior Angus opened his account for pre-season with a neat finish after great work from Jason Taylor to bring The Bluebirds level in the second half only for Blackpool to pinch the win with a second goal eight minutes from time.
However, Dunn saw lots to be positive about from the performance and is looking forward to getting his teeth in to the work that still needs to be done in the coming weeks.
“Everything we have asked the players to do over the last couple of days they have done really well,” he told us.
“It’s only the second game so I won’t get too dreamy or too disheartened about the result but I was relatively pleased with the shape of the team.
“That was a really good test for us because Blackpool will be very competitive this season in the division above and have made some really good signings but I thought our lads coped with it well and we scored a good goal.
“I never like losing football matches, even if they are friendlies, and I am a bit disappointed with conceding from set-piece but it gives us loads to work on so I am pretty pleased overall.”
