Inspired Joshua Launches Foodbank Campaign

19 November 2020

A young Barrow fan inspired by the efforts of Marcus Rashford and Boxes of Hope Cumbria is hoping to help support his local community in an extra special way this Christmas.

Joshua Hewson, eight-years-old and a pupil at Newbarns Primary School, has followed the lead of Manchester United and England ace, Rashford and has launched the ‘Barrow United’ campaign to support the town’s Foodbank.

And Joshua has already secured a host of fantastic additions to his Christmas squad, with ten local schools already signed-up to help the determined youngster with his goal of delivering Christmas hampers to families during the festive period.

With the support of Barrow AFC Community Trust, Joshua is appealing for schools to donate items to be prepared in to special hampers, which will then be delivered directly to the Foodbank.

“There is already some amazing work being done by a number of agencies across our fantastic community but Joshua really wants to do his bit too,” explained Community Trust Manager, Craig Rutherford.

“It just shows what an inspiration Marcus Rashford has been to youngsters all over the country and we’re proud to support Joshua with his Barrow United campaign.

“We’ve helped him organise it so that different aged pupils can donate different items, which can then be collected up by us and brought to the Football Club to be made up in to Christmas hampers.

“We’ve already got a strong line-up of schools in the Barrow United squad but we’d love even more to sign-up over the next week and let’s help Joshua make a real difference to the Foodbank this Christmas.”
