We Must Show Professionalism - Hird

20 April 2021

Sam Hird has encouraged the players to use the disappointment they felt following their weekend defeat as fuel to drive them on as they return to action against Port Vale tonight.

Two second half goals condemned The Bluebirds to a 2-0 defeat at Leyton Orient on Saturday as a four-game unbeaten run came to an end at The Breyer Group Stadium.

However, rather than be down in the dumps about the setback, Hird has insisted that the squad can turn it into motivation for the next step in their ongoing battle to retain EFL status.

“If anything, we need to use that defeat as a livener to us all,” he told us.

“We responded well to our last defeat, so we just need to maintain our professionalism now.

“Winning and losing is part of professional football and, though nobody likes to lose, sometimes it can give you the chance to reset your approach and hopefully we can do that in the upcoming games.

“We just need to keep doing what we’ve been doing, make sure we do everything right, keep believing in ourselves and then focus on bouncing back positively against Port Vale tonight and at Tranmere Rovers on Saturday.

“The lads earned a really big result for the Club last time we played on home soil against Exeter City, and I would expect this evening’s game against Port Vale to be similar in lots of respects.

“We will show them the right amount of respect but not too much, because if we do what we know we are capable of then there is no reason why we can’t go and get three points.”
