Bluebirds Snap Up Striker Josh Gordon

16 June 2021

Barrow boss Mark Cooper has moved to add some extra firepower to his squad by clinching the signing of front man Josh Gordon on a two-year deal.

The 26-year-old striker netted 27 goals in 123 appearances over three seasons for The Saddlers before his release from The Banks’s Stadium at the end of the 2020/21 campaign.

Born in Stoke-on-Trent, Gordon began his career with his hometown club and came through the ranks at Stoke City before moving into non-league for spells with Newcastle Town, Nantwich Town and Rhyl.

However, a prolific stint in the colours of Stafford Rangers in 2016/17 put some high-profile clubs on red alert and Gordon made a move to Premier League champions Leicester City.

He became a regular scorer in The Foxes’ Under-23 side in Premier League 2 and wasn’t short of offers following his release in the summer of 2018 but opted to sign for Walsall.

The hard-working forward netted nine times in his debut season for The Saddlers and went on to be the club’s top scorer during the 2019/20 campaign with 12 goals, including a hat-trick against Forest Green Rovers.

Bluebirds boss Cooper was quick to make his move when Gordon became available and he follows Paul Farman, Tom White and Offrande Zanzala in joining the Club this summer.
