The Barrow AFC Academy are set to hold open trials for U16 players to represent the club in their inaugural Junior Premier League season.
Players will be provided with training twice per week and weekly fixtures in the JPL on Saturdays.
The league bridges the gap between grassroots and academy football and provides a level of challenge above local football on a weekly basis. Teams such as Tranmere Rovers, Salford City, Stockport County and AFC Fylde will provide the opposition, along with usual fixtures with other academies.
Trials begin on Tuesday 13th July and will run through until the 29th July before a 20-man team will be selected.
"We are very excited to put into place the first part of our three-year vision in creating the first full-time Academy side," said Head of Academy, Liam Reid.
"This team will have a fantastic opportunity to be training with our staff twice per week whilst getting the consistent weekly challenge of strong opposition, something we have been crying out for over the last few seasons.
"Players will be put through their paces before our intensive pre-season programme begins in readiness for the first game in September. This season will put them in great shape ready to trial for our first U18 side to be created in time for the 2022-23 season."
