In Focus: Barrow's Record At Cheltenham

16 March 2021

Phil Yelland checks on how The Bluebirds have fared during previous visits to Cheltenham Town ahead of tonight's League Two encounter.

Tuesday night sees us head to Whaddon Road (or The Jonny-Rocks Stadium) to play Cheltenham Town, looking for our first win against them there in our eighth visit.

Our seven trips to date have seen two draws and five defeats.

Our first draw at the ground came at the start of February 1988 in the FA Trophy when we drew 0-0. The second draw, also 0-0 in August 1991, is our only league point against The Robins at that venue.

Our heaviest defeat at the ground came on August Bank Holiday Monday in 1998 in the Conference, when we lost 4-1 with Neil Morton scoring.

We have only scored three goals at Cheltenham’s home in the past – the aforementioned strike from Neil Morton, one from Danny Wheatley in a 3-1 defeat in March 1991 and an own goal in August 2015 during a 2-1 defeat.

However, we have tasted victory there in the past. Back in February 2014 we defeated then tenants Gloucester City 3-1 thanks to goals from Danny O’Donnell, Nick Rushton and Sam Sheridan!

Let’s hope seven years on from that we can repeat the trick!
