Sam Hird has urged the players to keep on giving their all after another spirited performance earned them an eye-catching win at the home of league-leaders Cheltenham Town on Tuesday night.
Goals from James Jones and Scott Quigley helped The Bluebirds to a shock victory at The Jonny-Rocks Stadium, but Hird insisted it came as no surprise to anyone inside the Barrow camp.
“The lads are buzzing, and we’ll let them have that moment before we focus on the next one,” he told iFollow.
“They were excellent, and they deserve the celebrations after coming to the top side in the league who have been fantastic all season and will probably get promoted.
“The lads respect Rob massively and, since he has taken over, they have given all of the staff everything and have taken on board everything we want from them.
“I don’t think you can say we rode our luck because it’s good defending – blocks, tackles, headers, putting your body on the line because they know we are in a dogfight.
“You earn your fortune as a team through hard work and desire – and I certainly felt like we deserved that win tonight in the end.
“We were always confident coming into the game. That’s not arrogance but we have a clear game plan, and the lads all know what we expect and they’re giving us it on the pitch, so we’ll keep going.”
Hird also confirmed that former Carlisle United and Blackpool boss Neil McDonald has joined the Club to support Rob Kelly and the rest of the coaching staff during the run-in.
“We’ve got a strong backroom staff now,” he told us.
“We all have different strengths and probably different weaknesses but that’s all part of a coaching team and Rob has put that together.
“It’s great to have Neil here and we all have one agenda – to keep this Club in the Football League.”
