Kelly Pleased To Clinch Andrew Deal

23 March 2021

Rob Kelly has backed Calvin Andrew to become an asset to Barrow during the run-in after the experience forward put pen to paper on a deal until the end of the season.

The caretaker boss revealed he has been keen to add a little extra firepower to give some help to the Club’s existing forwards and is delighted to clinch a deal for Andrew.

The front man has spent the last six years playing for League One outfit Rochdale and Kelly is confident he can have a big impact during the closing months of the campaign.

“I think Calvin brings us good experience and bit of knowhow,” he told us.

“We’ve got a few younger ones but he’s also someone who can take a bit of the strain and stress off Luke James and Scott Quigley.

“Calvin is a really good professional, and someone knows the game, so we’ve been talking about him for a while – he had other options but fortunately he’s coming here, and he’s committed to helping us at Barrow.

“It’s been a unique season and you can always get injuries and suspensions so Calvin coming in will help us on the pitch but also in the dressing room, because the more good professionals you have the better.

“I thank the Board and the people at the Club in supporting me to bring him in because I just feel he’s of a type that we don’t really have so it’s another alternative.

“He’s not played for a while so we have done quite a bit of work in the background in conditioning and trying to get him up to speed and we're delighted to have him in the squad for the first time tonight."
