Work Begins To Renovate Pitch

4 May 2021

Work has begun to renovate the playing surface at The Progression Solicitors Stadium in time for the start of the 2021/22 League Two campaign.

No time has been wasted in getting on with the summer plans to ensure that The Bluebirds have another first-class pitch to play their football on next season.

Contractors arrived early on Monday to get down to business and have battled against very wet conditions to strip down the pitch in a process which takes two passes and should be complete by Wednesday morning.

Last summer the Club began a four-year plan to install a full drainage system and the second part of that work will take place on Wednesday once stripping has been completed.

There are then plans to sand and gravel slit right across the pitch up to the edge of the penalty areas before the whole surface is vertidrained, sanded and then seeded.

“We’re cracking on with the work now and everyone is happy with the progress we’ve made so far,” explained Groundsman Gareth Morgan.

“The irrigation we’ve got in place should help in terms of keeping the pitch moist, but we could do with the temperature going up a little because it does need some warmth too.

“With a bit of luck, we should see the first shoots of green about ten days after the pitch is seeded but we are in the hands of Mother Nature to some extent so let’s hope she’s kind to us!”
