Preview: Sutton United v Barrow

26 November 2021

We take a closer look at the weekend action with a full and in-depth preview of The Bluebirds' trip to Gander Green Lane.

Sutton United v Barrow
Saturday 27th November 2021, 3pm
Gander Green Lane
Sky Bet League Two

In Opposition
Sutton United have taken League Two by storm so far this season after winning their place in the EFL by clinching the National League title in 2020/21.

Matt Gray’s men were outstanding last season and were rightfully crowned champions, but they have still surprised many by just how well they’ve taken to life in the league above.

The U’s were winless in League Two during the first month as they acclimatised to their new surroundings but they have been in great form since then and currently sit in sixth place in the table.

They recovered from a 4-1 defeat the hands of Leyton Orient last weekend to overcome Mansfield Town 2-0 on home turf in midweek and they’ll be eyeing more Gander Green Lane success when they host The Bluebirds on Saturday.

One To Watch
Issac Olaofe joined Sutton United on a loan deal from Millwall at the end of August but has got himself among the goals during a run in the side in the last couple of months.

The 22-year-old front man has hit the net five times in all competitions this term, including two in his last three games so he comes into the weekend’s clash with The Bluebirds in good form.

It’s Olaofe’s second loan stay at Gander Green Lane after his goals helped fire Matt Gray’s men to the National League title last season.

Head To Head
Saturday’s game will be the first time the two clubs have ever played each other in the Football League following Sutton United’s promotion last term.

The last meeting was in the National League in February 2020 just before the pandemic called an abrupt end to the campaign and an entertaining affair saw Barrow surrender a two-goal lead to draw 2-2 at Gander Green Lane.

In total, there have been eight competitive meetings and Barrow have enjoyed the better of it having won three times in comparison to Sutton’s single triumph.

Referee
Brett Huxtable will take in his first Barrow game of the season when he’s the man in the middle for Saturday’s League Two meeting with Sutton United.

The experienced official has been on the EFL’s list of referees since 2016 and has so far presided over seven fixtures during 2021/22.

Huxtable’s most recent appointment came at Sixfields Stadium on Tuesday when he oversaw Northampton Town’s 2-1 League Two win over Oldham Athletic.
