I'm Disappointed We Didn't Win - Cooper

23 October 2021

Mark Cooper praised the spirit of his players once again as they struck late to rescue a point at Walsall – but insisted they should have come away from The Banks’s Stadium with a win.

The Bluebirds boss saw Josh Gordon prod a 96th-minute leveller as Barrow twice came from behind to draw 2-2 against The Saddlers but even the excitement of a last-gasp goal could not mask Cooper’s frustration.

“I think the draw is the least we deserved from our performance,” Cooper told iFollow.

“Walsall started really well, and we conceded a crap goal after three minutes from a corner and we could have been further behind – and then we started to play.

“We controlled the rest of the first half, scored a great goal and then we just wanted more of the same in the second half, but we started a little bit sloppy again.

“We conceded another horrendous goal when we had four players in the box to Walsall’s two – until we stop conceding soft goals, we’re going to have to keep scoring two or three in a game to win.

“The lads kept playing the way I want us to play and eventually there has to be an opportunity and Josh (Gordon) had a chance just before which he should score but he gets another right at the death and it’s the least we deserve.

“I’m just disappointed we haven’t won. You saw what it meant at the end – the players felt they deserved something and refused to be beaten, but that should be three points for me.”
