Glennon Will Be Good For Us - Cooper

7 January 2022

Mark Cooper has revealed his delight after being able to strengthen his defensive options following the arrival of Anthony Glennon on loan from Burnley.

The 22-year-old defender checked in at The Dunes Hotel Stadium on Friday morning after Cooper clinched a deal with the Premier League outfit to bring the left-sided star to Barrow for the remainder of the 2021/22 campaign.

With Joe Grayson sidelined by an Achilles injury, the Bluebirds boss has had to prioritise his search for a replacement and is thrilled to have been able to bring Glennon to Cumbria.

“He’s a good, versatile player who can play left-back or left wing-back,” Cooper explained.

“Obviously with the injury to Joe (Grayson), we needed to bring someone in whether that was a left-sided player or a wing-back and Anthony fits the bill, so we’re pleased to have got him.

“It’s been a bit frustrating this week because everyone knows we need to strengthen up front, but we also had to bring a left-sided player in too, so we’re pleased to have got the deal done.”

This will be Glennon’s second taste of life on loan after he prospered during a short spell with Grimsby Town at the start of 2020 before the season was brought to a premature close due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Cooper believes that the experience he had with The Mariners will stand him in good stead and help him to hit the ground running as he settles into life with Barrow.

“I saw him play a few times when he was out on loan at Grimsby, and he did really well, and I am sure he can come in and help us,” said Cooper.

“He knows the area, it’s not too far for him and, having been out on loan in League Two before, he already knows the landscape which is a bonus too.

“Sean Dyche has been very complimentary about him as a player and he’s a good character as well which is just as important – and I know he is desperate to come and play.

“We thought we had him on Wednesday but it’s been delayed for one reason or another but we got the green light this morning so we delayed training a little, got him over here and now he just can’t wait to get started.”
