Barrow play their penultimate pre-season fixture tonight, as Scott Brown’s Fleetwood Town visit the SO Legal Stadium, kick-off 7pm.
Barrow v Fleetwood Town
Tuesday 19th July 2022, 7pm
SO Legal Stadium
Fleetwood Town are preparing for their eleventh season in League One, after avoiding relegation to League Two on the final day last season. There’ll be a new face in the dugout this campaign, as Scott Brown was given the managerial reins earlier this summer.
The former Celtic captain has brought numerous new faces to Highbury Stadium this offseason, including experienced midfielder Josh Vela and 6ft 4in defender Josh Earl. Exciting young striker Callum Morton returns to Fleetwood on a three-year deal, also.
Pete Wild’s side are unbeaten in pre-season so far and come into this game fresh out of a 2-1 victory over South Shields on Saturday. The Bluebirds’ newest signing, Harrison Neal, scored the goal that ended up proving vital. The other goal came from Josh Kay, who has been a standout performer in front of goal this summer, with five goals netted in total.
The last meeting between the two sides was in last year’s Papa John’s Trophy, when The Cod Army ran out as 3-1 victors. Bluebirds fans may remember Scott Moloney making his outfield debut in that game.
Perhaps the most memorable meeting came in August 2011, when Barrow beat Fleetwood at Holker Street 4-0 in the Blue Square Bet Premier. As a direct response to that hammering, Fleetwood went out and bought Jamie Vardy from FC Halifax Town… and the rest, as they say, is history.
Fleetwood got their revenge in the return fixture, though, as Vardy himself netted a brace in a 4-1 defeat for The Bluebirds.
