Barrow Make Move For Ben Whitfield

21 July 2022

Pete Wild has made another addition to the squad today, as winger Ben Whitfield joins from Stockport County on a two year deal.

Whitfield started his footballing life in the Bradford City youth setup at the young age of six. He stayed at Valley Parade until he was sixteen, when he joined fellow Yorkshire outfit Guiseley.

His stay at Nethermoor was a short one, as he made a move south to join then-Championship side AFC Bournemouth just a couple months later, with Eddie Howe’s Cherries fighting off numerous top-flight clubs for Whitfield’s signature.

After a couple loan spells at Kidderminster Harriers and Yeovil Town, the 5ft 7in winger joined Port Vale on loan in August 2017. A successful season at Vale Park saw the Staffordshire side snap him up on a permanent basis for the following season.

The Yorkshireman spent time at Torquay United in 2019/20 and 2020/21, netting 13 times in 65 appearances from the wing for The Gulls.

Stockport County snapped up his services last term, but an injury to his metatarsal cut the title-winning season short for the pacy forward.

Whitfield now joins Barrow and has chosen to wear the Number 34 shirt.
