Pete Wild Blog: Wednesday 15th June

15 June 2022

Bluebirds boss Pete Wild is back to provide another update for supporters as work continues behind the scenes at Holker Street.

Hello again, everyone and welcome to my second Blog here on the Official Website.

It’s been another busy week behind the scenes just talking to a lot of players, as you can imagine, but people can see for themselves that there isn’t a lot of business going on around the leagues at present. At this time of year, the players can hold all the cards, but it is all about selling them what we’re trying to do here at this Club and hopefully our offers are as good as the ones they may already have on the table.

Nobody gives too much away at this time of year but we’re doing our best to get deals done and hopefully we will have more news for you soon following the announcements about Billy Waters and Solomon Nwabuoekei.

I was really pleased to get the deal for Solomon done because he’s a player who I came up against at Halifax twice last season and he hugely impressed me. He’s got massive energy and enthusiasm and I certainly believe he can complement what we have in the squad already really well.

I know there will be some who might say it’s a bit of a left field signing for us but, honestly, I am really excited about the amount of potential he has to improve and go to the next level. Now it’s about us stepping up and doing our job as coaches to bring out that improvement in him.

It’s definitely a very positive start to our recruitment work to have Solomon and Billy through the door. Good dressing rooms have good characters and, in particular with Billy, I know that he will have an impact on our younger players and support them through the ups and downs of a long season ahead.

As well as our work on bringing players in, we obviously continue to work on the training ground and getting things in place for next Thursday when the players come back for the first time. For the players who have been here last season and had to move around so much to accommodate training, I hope it marks a big step forward for us to have a home now. Don’t get me wrong, there are things still to work on but it’s certainly ready for next week and we will keep on improving on it as we go along.

You should now have seen that we’ve confirmed a handful of pre-season friendlies which will give us a good blend of challenges during the warm-up campaign. We have a mix of non-league opposition early on and then step that up when we host Fleetwood Town and hopefully, we can get the other couple of games confirmed so that you can see our schedule in full soon.

Thanks again for reading and for your ongoing support. See you again next week.

Pete.
