Josh Gordon Nominated for PFA Player Of The Month

7 September 2022

Brandon Thomas-Asante (Salford City, now of West Bromwich Albion), Sam Hoskins (Northampton Town), Omar Bogle (Newport), Danny Johnson (Walsall), Josh Gordon (Barrow) and Charlie Kelman (Leyton Orient) of League Two round off Football League nominees.

Gordon’s shortlisting acknowledges a strong start to the season for Barrow, with his four goals helping The Bluebirds win five of their opening six league matches.

Salford’s fine start to the season is reflected in Thomas-Asante’s nomination, who ended the month with 6 goal involvements. Such impressive form has since earned the 23-year-old a move to Championship side West Bromwich Albion on the penultimate day of the transfer window.

Northampton Town forward Hoskin’s nomination is more than justified having scored 7 goals in 6 matches and leading the top goal scoring table. While for Walsall, loanee Johnson made a perfect start in the Black Country with a hat-trick on the first day. The former Mansfield man then doubled his tally with three more in the following five fixtures.

Joining Newport County on a free transfer in the summer, Bogle’s nomination is more than justified having already surpassed his goal tally from last season, scoring five goals in 6 league appearances for his new team.

League Two leaders Leyton Orient finished top at the end of August and crucial to their success has been Kelman, who scored three and assisted one in five appearances as the O’s remained unbeaten.

Voting is now open for fans to pick one player from each league listed in the shortlists above to win the monthly awards; fans can do so on the 90min.com website.
