Barrow AFC Vs Wrexham AFC Preview

26 August 2023

Pete Wild’s side are looking to return to win ways today as we host Phil Parkinson's Wrexham side at 3 pm.

The Bluebirds had a great start to the season as they won their first two games. On both occasions, they ran out 2:1 winners against Tranmere Rovers and Sutton United.

Barrow's unbeaten streak continued when Emile Acquah snatched a late equaliser away to Accrington Stanley, but unfortunately Wild's men were finally defeated 1-0 away to Stockport County last week.

Team news

We're still without Mazeed Ogungbo who continues to recover from his torn meniscus sustained in pre-season.

We’ll also be without Ben Whitfield who continues to recover from an Achilles issue.

The opposition

Wrexham made their long-awaited return to the football league this season having pipped Notts County to the National League title last year.

The Hollywood dream soon came crashing down when MK Dons thrashed the Welsh Side 5-3 on the opening day. A 1-1 draw against AFC Wimbledon followed before they finally picked up their first win of the season on their third attempt after defeating Walsall 5:3.

Last weekend was certainly their most dramatic game to date after they drew 5:5 with Swidon Town in sensational fashion. Swidon rushed into a 4:1 lead at half-time with former Bluebird Jake Young bagging two goals, the Welsh side wasn't defeated though and scored twice in added time to snatch a draw.

Head-to-head

We haven't beaten Wrexham in the last seven times we've played them, with our last win against today's opposition coming in 2016 when we ran out 2:0 winners in a National League clash.

In total we've played today's opponents 95 times, with us winning 25 times, drawing 35, and losing 35 times.

Officials

Daniel Middleton will be the referee for tomorrow’s match with Paul Newhouse and Darren Williams being his assistants, whilst David Mcnamara will be the fourth official.
