Match Report: Holker Old Boys 1-8 Barrow AFC

11 July 2023

Barrow run riot at Holker Old Boys as the Bluebirds smash them for eight.

Summer arrival from Aberdeen Dean Campbell stole the headlines in the first half after he bagged a hattrick, whilst the second half was full of a number of great strikes from Barrow.

It took Barrow a while to get going in the first half with Holker’s defence proving very stubborn to break down, but eventually the deadlock was broken in the 27th minute after Campbell coolly rolled one in from the spot.

Holker actually equalised in the 30th minute after Jamie Hodgson’s deflected freekick found its way into the back of the net.

Their joy was only short lived though as Campbell converted from the spot again only three minutes later.

Barrow gifted a third goal of the afternoon in the 35th minute after Trialist B’s cross was deflected into the back of Holker’s net.

Campbell then completed his hattrick in the 43rd minute after he curled one in from the edge of the area.

After eleven changes at the break Barrow started the second half brightly and scored only three minutes into the new half after Jamie Proctor scored a wonderful scissor kick after a long throw from Rory Feely.

Barrow then had to wait 19 minutes for their next goal, but it was well worth the wait.

Ged Garner absolutely smashed one in from the edge of the area leaving the keeper motionless in the goal.

Three minutes later Tom White curled a stunning goal into the top corner from the edge of the area as well.

The Route was complete in the 77th minute after David Worrall played an expert ball through to Proctor who beat the offside trap, before unselfishly squaring it to Ben Whitfield who tapped home form a yard out.
