Pete Wild Relished A "Good Challenge" against Preston Yesterday At The So Legal Stadium

16 July 2023

The Bluebirds triumphed in their third successive pre-season outing, this time scalping Championship opposition.

New signing David Worrall opened his account for the club, scoring the solitary goal within the opening five minutes. He finished an excellent team move, slotting home at the back post.

Tyrell Warren and Paul Farman kept Barrow in the contest, with the former blocking Ben Woodburn’s effort on the line, and the latter producing acrobatics to deny a Robbie Brady free kick that was destined for the top corner.

After the match, The gaffer spoke to Barrowafc.com and expressed his delight.

“It was a really good challenge, we wanted to increase the tempo, and that certainly happened today.

“We knew we were not going to have a lot of the ball against Preston today, so it was about having a good shape.”

He added: “We talked about not having a lot of the ball and not throwing it away when we did have the ball. We wanted to make sure we did something with it when we had it.

“I was also really pleased with how our wide overloads looked, and how we got in down the sides. There was loads of pleasing stuff that came out of today.”

All of the club’s summer signings featured in our first home game back, including former Maidenhead striker Emile Acquah, who was introduced on the hour mark.

Wild was impressed with the 22-year-old, who came within inches of doubling the lead in the second half.

Wild added: “Emile is strong, he’s quick and you can see what he’s going to be about. He will need time to get up to the pace of the game and back to where he needs to be, but he will get there.

“He has a good group around him that will help him get there, and good staff around him as well that will make sure he’s there physically. Let’s just be patient, and hopefully, that is a sign of things to come.”

The Bluebirds will be looking to maintain their perfect start to pre-season, as we face travel to Fylde on Tuesday.
