After some last-minute drama down in Milton Keynes last Saturday, Pete Wild’s side will be hoping to push on tomorrow afternoon at home to AFC Wimbledon.
The Bluebird's previous game against MK Dons went down to the wire, with two stoppage-time goals sealing a draw, giving the 278 traveling Bluebirds something to cheer about as they made the long trip back to Cumbria.
After two first-half goals from Max Dean, the away side went on to dominate the ball and do everything they could to pull the game back. However, the Bluebirds had to wait until the 93rd minute for a goal after second-half substitute Ben Whitfield pulled one back. It wasn’t long until we drew level one minute from time thanks to a great strike from Emile Acquah.
Going into tomorrow’s game, Barrow currently sits 14th in League Two, four points behind tomorrow’s opponent AFC Wimbledon. A side that currently sits in eighth place, with only one point separating them from a playoff spot, and a win would potentially see them go up to 2nd place given other results go their way elsewhere. Whereas a win for Barrow could potentially see them climb the table to 9th, also given results elsewhere go their way.
Barrow is currently still unbeaten at home in the league after beating Doncaster Rovers and Sutton United, whilst drawing with Wrexham and Notts County.
Team news
After Saturday’s game, Junior Tiensia picked up an ankle injury which is set to potentially leave him out for three months, resulting in Wild having a loss to the squad.
The opposition.
The opposition boasts a very impressive away record having not lost on the road all season, recording four away wins in the process.
In Wimbledon’s previous game, the side's five-game unbeaten run ended after a loss to Bradford City, who were playing their second game under Caretaker Manager Kevin McDonald.
Taking a look at the opposition, there are plenty of players who could hurt Barrow and cause a threat in the game. The main man to watch out for is Wimbledon’s top scorer and winger, James Tilley. He is currently on eight goals after 14 games and is already looking a strong part of the Wimbledon side. Another important player to watch out for is Jake Reeves, an experienced pro who returned to Wimbledon back in the summer having achieved promotion at the club back in 2016.
Head-to-head
Barrow last played Wimbledon last season, when they completed a league double against them. In the away leg of the fixture, Pete Wild’s side won 1-0 with the only goal coming from Josh Gordon. As for the home game, it also ended in victory, with Barrow winning 2-1 away at the SO Legal Stadium, with goals this time coming from Gordon and Niall Canavan, whilst Luke Jenkins got Wimbledon’s only goal five minutes into the game.
Last season Barrow finished ninth in the league and Wimbledon finished 21st, so taking this into account and the improvements the Bluebirds have made since Wild’s appointment, both sides will be wanting to push on this season.
Referee
The man in charge tomorrow is Scott Tallis who has never previously refereed the Bluebirds. So far this season he has refereed 10 games across the EFL and has dished out 38 yellow cards, and two reds.
He will be joined by Jake Topp, Darren Williams, and Richard Woodward as the fourth official.
