Barrow will be hoping to continue their unbeaten start to the season at home when they host Salford City tomorrow afternoon.
After recording their fifth win and the third clean sheet of the season, Pete Wild’s men now face a tough challenge in the form of a Salford side who have recorded three wins in their last five league games.
The last game for the Cumbrians was a 2-0 away win against Forest Green Rovers. The win saw the team rise to 11th place in the league, as striker Dom Telford bagged his first goal for the Bluebirds.
The game was statistically dominated by Forest Green; however, Barrow was clinical with the few chances they had and ended the game with less XG but still collected the three points.
A win for Barrow tomorrow could see them climb up to eighth in the league if results elsewhere go their way.
Barrow is currently still unbeaten at home in the league, however, Wild will be hoping to see his side back up these recent performances with more wins.
Team news
Tuesday night’s game saw a few changes to the team that played last Saturday. However, most of these were tactical and not due to injury so once again you can expect Wild to have a selection headache.
The opposition.
Salford City currently sits two places below Barrow in League Two, with one less point. However, they have got a very good record at the SO Legal Stadium.
Taking a look at the opposition, there are plenty of players who could hurt Barrow and cause a threat in the game. The main man to watch out for is Salford City’s top scorer and striker Smith. He is currently on 12 goals after 15 games and is already looking a strong part of the side. He also scored a hat trick in their most recent fixture which was a 3-0 win over Doncaster Rovers in midweek, so going into the game tomorrow he is in hot form. Another important player to watch out for is midfielder Stephen Mallan. A player who joined Salford last summer after spending a season in Turkey and is currently on two assists after playing 14 games this season.
Head-to-head
Barrow last played Salford, in the 2022/2023 season, in which both fixtures ended in draws. Last season in the league when the two sides faced, both games ended 1-1. Barrow’s game against them at home ended 1-1, with scorers being Ryan Watson for Salford in the 12th minute, and Salford defender Theo Vassell scored an own goal to gift Barrow a point in the 70th minute.
In the away fixture down at The Peninsula Stadium, the game also ended in a 1-1 draw, this time Matt Smith put the home side Salford 1-0 up, but it was Wild’s men who had the last say when Jordan Stevens scored with just over ten minutes of the game remaining.
Last season in the league standings Barrow finished ninth and Salford City finished seventh in League Two, losing in the Play-Off Semi-Final to Stockport County.
Referee
Jacob Miles will be the man in charge tomorrow. This is only his second season as an EFL referee, and we are yet to be officiated by him. His most recent game came in midweek when Northampton drew 2-2 with Leyton Orient in League One.
Tomorrow he will be accompanied by Paul Newhouse, Bradley Hall, and David Richardson.
