Match Preview: MK Dons vs Barrow AFC

12 October 2023

Pete Wild’s side will be looking to bounce back from their disappointing 3:1 loss against local rivals Morecambe when they face MK Dons on Saturday.

Saturday will already be the Bluebirds’ tenth away trip of the season after an awkward fixture schedule has meant the Bluebirds have only played at the SO Legal Stadium five times this season.

Despite the rather unusual fixture list at the start of the season Wild’s men have managed to pick up 16 points from their opening 11 matches and only lost on three occasions.

Last time out on the road in the league Barrow was really unfortunate to lose to Grimsby 2-1 despite having 24 attempts on goal that evening, with substitute Sam Foley getting on the scoresheet for us.

While we also had another away trip on Tuesday night in the EFL Trophy where the Bluebirds were defeated 3:1. Despite the score-line there were some positives to take from the game, like a number of players who had been injured throughout the past few weeks got 90 minutes under their belt. Most notably Ben Whitfield made his first start of the season and scored a sensational goal directly from a corner.

Team news

Once again the Gaffer has a really strong squad to pick from on Saturday after Mazeed Ogungbo, Tom White, Courtney Duffus, and Whitfield all made their return from injuries on Tuesday night.

Junior Tiensia is also back in the mix having served the full duration of his suspension following his red card at Mansfield Town.

The opposition.

The Dons were relegated to League Two on the final day of last season by a single point after they failed to defeat already safe Burton Albion at the Pirelli Stadium.

And despite the relegation, Milton Keynes seemed to kick this season off on fire after they won four of their opening five games however, they're now currently winless in their last seven.

This means Graham Alexander’s side currently sit 16th in the league, having picked up 15 points from their opening 12 games.

Head-to-head

Saturday will actually be the first-ever meeting between the two sides, which means for most Bluebirds fans making the long trip down south it’ll be an opportunity to tick off a new ground.

Referee

The man in charge is Will Finnie who has previously refereed the Bluebirds on three occasions, with the most recent occasion taking place last season during our 1-0 defeat to Harrogate Town.

Joining him on Saturday will be Abbas Khan and Hugh Gilroy, with Stuart Butler as the fourth official.
