Match Preview: Barrow AFC vs Forest Green Rovers

12 February 2024

The Bluebirds will be looking to build on their exemplary home form as they host 24th-place Forest Green Rovers tomorrow night.

During their latest run out, the Bluebirds suffered only their sixth defeat of the season at the hands of AFC Wimbledon as the Don ran out 2-0 winners at the Cherry Red Records Stadium thanks to two early goals.

Meanwhile last time out at home, the Bluebirds produced a great performance against MK Dons resulting in a well-deserved 1-0 win to Barrow. Cole Stockton was the hero that day after he bagged his first goal for the club with his final touch of the match.

Team News

Junior Tiensia is stepping up his return and has been involved in light training over the past fortnight.

Jamie Proctor will be unavailable for tomorrow’s match after he received his marching orders during Saturday's loss at Wimbledon.

The Opposition

Tomorrow’s opposition Forest Green currently sit at the bottom of the Sky Bet League Two table and is nine points off safety.

In their previous five encounters, they have picked up just two points having lost three times and drawn twice. You’ll have to go all the way back to October to find their last victory where on the 28th of October they defeated Crawley Town 2-1 at the New Lawn Stadium thanks to a brace from Callum Morton.

Rovers are onto their third Manager of the season, with new boss Steve Cotterill taking the reins at League Two’s bottom club on the 25th of January 2024.

Head-to-Head

Barrow last played Forest Green at the SO Legal Stadium back in the 2021/22 season, when the Bluebirds were involved in a relegation scrap down at the bottom of League Two, whilst tomorrow’s opposition Forest Green was League One bound.

But despite this, the Bluebirds recorded their first win of the Phil Brown era after they ran out 4-0 winners against Rovers thanks to goals from John Rooney, Aaron Amandi-Holloway, Joe Grayson, and Matty Platt.

The two sides have already faced each other this season back in October when Barrow ran out 2-0 winners at the New Lawn Stadium thanks to goals from Sam Foley and Dom Telford.

Telford’s goal was his first for the Bluebirds and after that match, he went on to score four goals in his next five matches for Barrow.

Referee

The man in charge of the game tomorrow is Lewis Smith who has previously refereed the Bluebirds on three occasions. The last time he took charge of a Barrow game was in November when we defeated Walsall 2-0 at the SO Legal Stadium.

Tomorrow he will be accompanied by Paul Newhouse, Matthew Sowerby, and Graeme Fyvie will be the fourth official.
