Match Preview: Crawley Town vs Barrow AFC

1 March 2024

The Bluebirds are looking to do a league double over Crawley Town as they travel away to the Red Devils on Saturday afternoon.

Pete Wild’s side had last week’s home fixture against Bradford City postponed, after a late pitch inspection deemed Holker Street’s pitch unplayable by referee Tom Nield.

The Bluebirds instead decided to host an open training session at the SO Legal Stadium to put their Saturday afternoon to some good use.

During their latest runout, the Bluebirds suffered a 5-3 defeat at the hands of Salford City. There was some good to come out of the game though as Tyrell Warren made his first start in over four months following an extended period on the sidelines and even bagged a goal.

Cole Stockton also found himself on the scoresheet yet again after he scored twice in the game, with one of them being a sensational curling shot into the far corner, from 20 yards out to put Barrow back on level terms before halftime. That means he has now bagged four goals in five starts since joining the Bluebirds.

Team News

Junior Tiensia is stepping up his return from injury and will be back in contact training soon.

Jamie Proctor will be unavailable for tomorrow’s match as he continues to serve his four-match suspension.

The Opposition

Saturday’s opposition Crawley Town currently sits in 9th place in the Sky Bet League Two table with just two points away from a Play-Off place.

In their previous five league encounters, they have picked up ten points, having won three times and drawn once. Their last fixture ended in a routine 1-0 win away from home, to defeat Lancashire side, Accrington Stanley. You’ll have to go back to September 2023 to find the last time they achieved this many points in a calendar month.

A star plays to watch out for is striker and top scorer, Danilo Orsi. Since joining the Red Devils in the summer, he has made a total of 34 appearances, with 32 of these coming in the league. He has since become an influential player to the side, only missing one league game and scoring 17 goals in all competitions. Giving Orsi a goal-to-game ratio of exactly one in two, in all competitions.

Barrow has played Crawley a total of seven times since our return to the EFL, with three of those games ending in victory for the Bluebirds, as the Reds ran out victorious on four occasions.

The two sides have already faced each other this season back in November at Holker Street, when the game ended 1-0 to the Bluebirds, on Blue and White Day. The winning goal came from Dom Telford, who picked up all three points for the Cumbrians as they extended their winning run which lasted all the way until Boxing Day when they were held by League Leader Stockport County.

Referee Will Finnie has been charged with taking charge of the fixture on Saturday. He has refereed 32 games this season, handing out 107 yellow cards and seven red cards.

The last time he refereed a match featuring the Bluebirds was back in October 2023 when we picked up a point away against MK Dons away, thanks to stoppage-time goals from Ben Whitfield and Emile Acquah.

He will be joined by Assistant Referees, Sam Ogles and Daniel Bonneywell. With Dean Treleaven as the Fourth Official.
