Grant Holt’s thoughts after our point at Boreham Wood.
Player/Coach Grant Holt was happy to take a point from our visit to Meadow Park, but felt with a bit more quality in the final third it could have been more:
“Both teams cancelled each other out a bit, I thought the first half was ours, the second half was probably theirs. We need to get better at our passing and options in the final third, we chose the wrong options at the wrong time and gave the ball away a bit cheaply at times. With that quality I think we could have won the game today.
They will say they maybe should have won today on the last 5 minutes but we had our chances and if we took them we could have taken three points. We probably rode our luck a little bit towards the end, the nerves kick in and they got a head of steam and were always going to get a chance.
No one comes here and turns Boreham Wood over and we did well. There was a spell of ten minutes where if we could just get the pass and could have put Luke James in, or put Lewis Walters in and go and score it changes the whole dynamic and that’s what we need to work on.”
The point against playoff contenders Boreham Wood meant the Bluebirds have lost just twice in their last 8 games and Holt is in no doubt that the Bluebirds squad is up to the task ahead:
“We are in good form though the points probably aren’t reflecting that at the moment. The first half especially today I thought we were good, we moved the ball well and just needed that final ball.
We’ve got a group of lads here who are determined to do what they have to do and we work hard each day, I think you can see the togetherness in the squad. We’re fine, we’re not worried. We have played well and dominated games and should have beaten Dover last week.”
The Bluebirds are next in action on Monday when we host AFC Fylde at the Furness Building Society Stadium kick off is 3pm!
