Born in Amble, James worked his way through the youth system at Hartlepool United and made his First Team debut for the Club in 2011 before becoming Pools’ youngest-ever scorer with a spectacular strike against Rochdale weeks later.
He top scored during the Club’s 2013/14 season and won Player of the Year awards before earning a move to Peterborough United at the start of the following campaign.
James then spent time out on loan in the colours of Bradford City and Bristol Rovers, as well as enjoying a temporary move back to Hartlepool before joining Forest Green Rovers in the summer of 2017.
The hard-working forward was allowed to join Barrow on loan during the second half of 2017/18 and scored some crucial goals as The Bluebirds avoided relegation from the National League.
He returned to Hartlepool once again during the summer of 2018 where he added a further seven goals to his tally but turned down a new deal at Victoria Park in order to make a move back to the EFL with Barrow in the summer of 2020.
