Born in Birkenhead, Mike began his senior career with his hometown club Tranmere Rovers. He signed for them in the summer of 2006 and over the next two years he played ten First Team games.

During that time he also had a spell on loan with Shrewsbury Town from January 2007 until the end of that season where he scored once in thirteen appearances.

In July 2008 he moved to Bury and was a regular over a three-and-a -half years, making 145 appearances and helping himself to 19 goals.

In January 2012 he signed for Sheffield Wednesday and made 10 appearances for the Owls. At the end of August 2012 he moved again, this time to Crawley Town where over two seasons he scored four times in 82 games.

The summer of 2014 saw him move back north and join Oldham Athletic where he got another 84 games under his belt. Two years later he joined Carlisle United where he spent four seasons, where he became popular with supporters and made 120 appearances.

The experienced midfield man was signed by Barrow during the summer of 2020 and started the season as a mainstay in the side, scoring a spectacular equaliser in the game against Colchester United.

However, an Achilles injury cut short his debut campaign and he did not feature again after November so will be hoping to play more during 2021/22.
