Born in Barrow, Tom moved to Australia at an early age and returned to the United Kingdom and joined the Academy at Sunderland in 2015.
In January 2017 he was loaned for the remainder of the season to Bury where he made two appearances and in January the following year he gained further experience with a loan spell at Scottish Championship side Dunfermline Athletic.
He was released by The Black Cats in the summer of 2018 and joined Dunfermline on a permanent basis. He went on to make 40 appearances for The Pars before agreeing a move to Barrow in the summer of 2020.
