Programme Notes v Harrogate Town

Programme Notes from last nights game.

Every week in our match day programme, Chairman Paul Hornby and manager Ian Evatt write a set of notes to keep fans in the loop. Here are their notes from the Harrogate Town game last night.

“Hello and welcome to The Progression Solicitors Stadium for our first home game of the season. The very first sentence tells you there have been lots of changes over the summer!

It’s been an unbelievable few weeks which has culminated with lots of projects being completed in and around the ground from the physio room, bar refurbishment, windows in the hospitality rooms, demolition of the West Terrace and improvements to the players tunnel and changing rooms.

As a group we wouldn’t have been able to undertake most of this work without the dedication of our own volunteer maintenance team and local trades people, who have given their time for free. It’s been a gigantic effort and I can only offer my thanks to everyone who has helped.

It’s also been a huge effort from The Bluebirds Supporters Trust who through the 1901 Club achieved over 900 entries. I’m sure this is way beyond their expectations, never mind my own, but this has raised over £17,000 for the work on the West Terrace.

Away from the stadium projects we’ve been working hard commercially. We’ve doubled our sponsorship revenue for the 2019/20 season, including a record breaking deal with Bartercard and Progression Solicitors taking over sponsorship of the stadium. This is all really good but I keep emphasizing this is just the start of the journey. This year we’ve projected a loss of £500,000 and whilst we hope to bring this figure lower with wider use of the facilities, the academy and other new projects, we must increase the average gate from 1375.

We know that to maintain the supporters coming through the turnstiles we need a successful team on the pitch. This is why we’ve supported our manager 100% with team retention and new players. Ian is a fantastic manager and I’m really excited about the season ahead. It’s a long old campaign but I’m going to nail our colours to the mast now and say I expect us to be serious challengers in those top 7 places.

Thank you all for your support, as a Board we appreciate the way the town is really getting behind us. Let’s keep the momentum going and enjoy the ride.

Paul”

“Good Evening and welcome to the Progression Solicitors Stadium for our first home game of the new season. A warm welcome to manager Simon Weaver and everyone involved with tonight’s visitors Harrogate Town too.

As a football manager my main focus is on the pitch, but I can only begin this column by thanking everyone who has contributed to the huge changes off the pitch this summer.

If this is your first time back you will notice the fantastic improvements that have been made around the ground, but what you won’t see is the changes to our changing room, physio room and the players tunnel area. These changes make a big difference to the players and we can’t thank those who have helped make it happen enough.

The board of directors have invested heavily to make all of this happen, with a view to making this club more sustainable, alongside the incredible fundraising efforts of organisations like the Bluebirds Trust and the National Supporters Club. They all deserve a huge thank you as well, I’m told memberships are now open for both the Trust and NSC, so be sure to sign up and support them.

All we can ask from you is that you back us from the very first minute of this season, like you did last year, both home and away. It is said a lot, but your support really does make a difference.

Enjoy the game,

Ian”
