The Vanarama First Fortnight – there’s plenty to be happy about at Barrow

League sponsors Vanarama have been busy assessing the season so far – and what’s ahead!

Story of the season…

Life is a rollercoaster at the minute if you’re a Barrow fan. Home form has become their shining light after back-to-back wins and clean sheets at Holker Street. It’s still early days!

From the gaffer…

Ian Evatt isn’t getting too carried away and pointed to the poor starts promoted pair Salford City and Leyton Orient had last season. “It’s easy for teams to be written off early in the season, we have to be calm in the eye of the storm and let everyone else write us off,” he said.

Turning point…

Saturday’s gutsy win against Yeovil Town might have reassured fans. The home side created a number of clear-cut chances and it could be bad news for their opponents if Dior Angus finds his lethal touch once again.

Top performer…

Every strong team needs a strong foundation and in Jason Taylor, Barrow have that by the bucket load. Ian Evatt might not be able to take to the pitch himself anymore but in Taylor, they have someone just as effective and commanding in their back four.

Stat attack…

League position: 14th

Home goals for: 3

Away goals for: 3

Home goals against: 3

Away goals against: 5

Top scorer: Scott Quigley (3)

Fan-favourite…

A striker that scores goals will always capture the hearts of fans. He’s took a few games to get going but most sides would love an in-form Scott Quigley in their ranks. Three goals in as many games for the forward has excited fans.

Next up…

Back to his old employers for Ian Evatt. The boss cut his teeth in management briefly with the Spireites and will head to Derbyshire will every chance of taking the spoils. Current boss John Sheridan is still waiting for this first win.

Keep an eye on…

Mike Fondop continued his fine record of scoring on his debut and netted twice against Barnet on Saturday. If he’s in the mood, it could be bad news for Barrow.

Last time out….

Barrow had the better of last season’s exchanges. After winning way back in August at Holker Street, a goalless draw at the Proact Stadium made it a good return.
