Pete Wild Wins EFL Award

11 April 2024

Pete Wild has been named as League Two’s Manager of The Month for a second time this season following an excellent March from the Bluebirds.

Barrow was the best-performing team in the division during March, having picked up an impressive 14 points from six matches.

Speaking about picking up the award for the second time this season, The Bluebirds Gaffer said: “I’m really pleased to receive this award. This is my second year as a Manager in the Football League and to have won this award twice this season is a magnificent achievement but overall, I just feel a great sense of pride for the project we’re doing at the football club.

“I feel this is an award which belongs to every member of staff and every player at the football club because of how hard they work, and to be the one to receive this award on behalf of everyone at Barrow AFC gives me an enormous sense of pride.”

Barrow came into March keen to build on a tricky previous month which had seen the Bluebirds lose three matches and have a further two games postponed. All of these factors meant there was a lot of pressure on the Bluebirds heading into March.

Wild, added: “February was our first real sticky patch of the season, and we always knew that when these times come you need to stick to your processes, remember what you’re good at, remember what got you here, and know that if you hold your nerve, you’ll come out the other side of it.

“March was a massive month, and the way we approached each game and the way we went back to basics by being tough to beat and hard to play against was really important. We also created a lot of chances and dominated the football, so to only concede two goals in the entire month, with one being a set piece and the other being a consolation goal in six really tough games was a real credit to the squad and how they’ve gone about their business.”

The Bluebirds boss now feels the club’s transformation since he walked through the door has been astronomical. He finished by saying: “If you look back two years to when we first walked in the door to where we are today, I’d say the place is unrecognisable and that’s a credit to everybody at the football club.

"But we also know it’s not the end yet and there’s so much more to come from us on and off the pitch. It’s a really special time to be a Barrow fan right now, so I accept this award for every member of staff and every player at the football club.”

Congratulations Gaffer!
